Brit Awards 2014: Red Carpet Style & Beauty

I do have a soft spot for the Brit Awards. Maybe it goes back to the days when I used to tape them off the TV and then spend the next week learning the dance routine to the Spice Girls, or maybe it's the nostalgic memory of 90s Brit Pop rock stars behaving badly. Whatever you think of the Brits, it does have that light-hearted, tongue-in-cheek vibe that most awards show lack and this always comes across on the red carpet.

The style gurus at Venus have been kind enough to share with me their take on this fun, flirty and sparkly red carpet and the beauty and style tips that you can try yourself. First off we have Venus Celebrity Stylist, Angie Smith, who reveals her coveted styling advice so you can recreate these looks at home, while Venus Beauty Therapist Nathalie Eleni shares her insider tips on recreating the hottest red carpet beauty trends.

If you want to play with your style and hair colour to make maximum Katy Perry-esque impact, then make like Lily Allen by following Angie's wise words on how to 'do' pops of colour...
When choosing a statement black dress à la Lily Allen, feel free to play with pops of colour. I love how Lily matched her canary-yellow ponytail to her clutch bag for top style points! A relatively simple hair style, Lily has brought it into the 21st century using the latest trend of wearing brights on the hair; this can be recreated by using hair chalks or a clip in extension for a less permanent, but just as effective, splash of colour.

If you've got a diamond face like Miss Rosie Huntington-Whiteley you don't have to try that hard to look flawless on the red carpet, but if you're like me you may need a hand! To help us with that dewy skin and nude lip combo, here are some pout-perfecting tips from Nathalie...
A nude lip colour layered with a subtle gloss finishes Rosie's striking look for an über glamorous effect. TOP TIP: Ensure you exfoliate your lips first and apply thick, moisture-rich lip balm 30 minutes before, so lips are in optimum condition.

Rita Ora always changes up her look on the red carpet, and often alternates her ake-up between a red lip or a smoky eye, and her style somewhere between elegant and in your face. If you're showing some skin and going for one bold, luxe colour like Rita did on the red carept tonight you need your skin to look fresh and vibrant. Luckily Nathalie can help us out again...
When wearing such bold and bright colours, glowing skin is a must-have accessory, especially with those cameras flashing! Ensure you revitalise your complexion with a light exfoliation treatment, removing any residual dry or dead skin cells, and a replenishing moisturising routine, using a body butter to create a healthy, natural sheen.
Huge thank you to the fabulous Venus team for sharing their beauty and style tips from the Brits. I'm off to buff, exfoliate and moisturise - I just need a red carpet event to go to now!

BAFTAs 2014 Red Carpet - Best Dressed

Another day, another red carpet event, this time in London with the 2014 BAFTAs. And yet again there is no competition as Lupita Nyong'o is without doubt the best dressed on the red carpet. Lupita wowed in a regal red cape Ralph Lauren dress at the Golden Globes and tonight at the BAFTAs had me on my knees in emerald green Dior. It's easy to forget that just a few months ago we hadn't even heard of the star of 12 Years a Slave and now she is fast becoming a red carpet favourite.

Uma Thurman showed that a little black dress is always a classy and striking choice, and when it fits you like a glove and you're extremely statuesque you don't have to try that hard to look absolutely incredible. The Atelier Versace column gown is finished off with stunning Chopard diamond, and what else do you really need?

Wearing Victoria Beckham the star of American Hustle, Amy Adams, also looked sleek and elegant in black. I love the collar and mock crop top which looks slightly prim while the zip up back is extremely sexy. The slicked back bun and berry lip adds to the look and makes it look like Amy means business.

Who was your best dressed at the 2014 BAFTAs?

Zac Posen Wedding Dresses at David's Bridal

Like the fashion blogger I am one of the first things I started thinking about when I got engaged on Christmas Day was THE dress. I have no preconceived ideas on the kind of wedding dress I want, but I was excited when I heard about this new designer bridal collaboration - Truly Zac Posen for David's Bridal.

I've been a long time fan of Zac Posen so I'm super duper excited about this affordable and inclusive collection with David's Bridal. With prices between £795 and £1,295 and in sizes 4 to 26 this collection gives every bride that 'red carpet' moment on their wedding day whatever their size or budget. There are some beautiful fishtail styles and full on ballgown silhouettes with Posen's signature corsets and ultra flattering panelling, the only problem would be choosing just one!

While it's a bit early for me to start shopping for my wedding dress (the wedding is May 2015), this collaboration has me really, really excited!

Which dress is your favourite?

Zooey Deschanel launches Macy's collection with Tommy Hilfiger

You've probably already heard that the Queen of Quirky, Zooey Deschanel, is collaborating with the master of preppy, Tommy Hilfiger, for US department store Macy's, but what you maybe didn't know is that this makes me very, very happy.

I've been a long time fan of Zooey Deschanel, from her early film roles (she's in Elf for example. No really. And she's blonde.) to the gorgeous music of her two-some band She & Him, but I've always really loved her vintage inspired style. So imagine my excitement when her first foray into design is with the all American King of prep, Tommy Hilfiger.

Using Hilfiger's classic palette of red, white and blue and mixing in 60s shifts with must-have shirt dresses this capsule collection is the perfect blend of Hilfiger's Americana and Zooey's vintage flair. I basically want it all.

The "To Tommy" collection from Zooey Deschanel and Tommy Hilfiger launches at Macy's in the spring. I'll see you in the queue!
