How to create Beach Waves with the Braun SensoCare Styler

My very straight hair and I often long for relaxed, tousled, beach waves so I was very happy to try out the the world-first, intelligent styler, Braun SensoCare, to create perfect (and easy!) beach waves.

Braun SensoCare detects the moisture level of each hair strand from root to tip and actively adjusts its temperature accordingly. The profile function also allows you to enter personal information such as your hair length, thickness and whether it is coloured or non-coloured - to provide a bespoke hair experience tailored to you!

Thanks to Braun's UK Style Director, renowned stylist Peter Beckett, who created some how-to videos using the Braun SensoCare Styler I've been able to re-create his easy beach waves. This is just stupidly easy to do, even on my very thick hair, and I found it worked really well on day old hair and using a bit of salt spray to give even more volume and texture.

Follow the steps below and my photo guide or just watch Peter's great video and you can have super-easy beach waves too.

Step 1:Ensure hair is blow dried or left to dry naturally. Part the hair and split into two even sections

Step 2: Loosely run stylers back and forth over hair. Repeat process for the whole first section.

Step 3: Twist the first hair section away from your face in line with your ear and clamp the styler over the twist in sections until you reach the tip on the hair.

Step 4: Coil the twist into a bun at your ear and secure with pins and allow to cool.

Step 5: Once cool, release the buns and shake the hair loose. Loosen the style using your fingers and lightly spray in hairspray to add hold.

Braun SensoCare is available at John Lewis for £60.

http://www.asos.com/ASOS/ASOS-Leopard-Jumper/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=3522767&sgid=7456&cid=13523&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=204&sort=-1&clr=Multi

Twin set's have had a bit of a make-over. Instead of a tank, a cardigan and a string of pearls the new twin set is all about a full outfit. Whether it's a jumper and knitted mini skirt, or a shell top and trousers, full-on matching twin sets from AW13 are here to stay for SS14.

Making today's Wednesday Wishlist is this gorgeous knitted leopard print jumper and skater skirt twin set from ASOS. I love black trim and the loud print in quite conservative shapes and this look is going to the top of my wishlist!

Tried & Tested: Braun SkinSpa Epilator Review

I'm not usually an epilator kind of girl, so when Braun asked me to review the new Braun SkinSpa epilator I was really intrigued. The SkinSpa comes with a huge array of attachments, including the epilator which can remove hairs as short as 0.5mm, two other attachments so the epilator can be used on underarms or on the face, a unique exfoliating attachment to help minimise ingrown hairs, and a shaver with an additional trimmer attachment. And it works wet or dry so the SkinSpa can be used in the shower or bath, to make it easier to use.

The new Braun SkinSpa combines the power of epilation and exfoliation in one beauty tool, for touchably smoother and visibly more radiant skin. Featuring Braun’s Close-Grip-Technology, the SkinSpa performs better than wax on short hairs and is four times more effective than manual exfoliation alone, delivering twice the treatment for salon professional results in your own home.

Celebrity Beauty Therapist Nathalie Eleni says, ‘It’s so important to exfoliate regularly to stimulate the skin’s natural regeneration process and stop skin looking dull, dry and uneven in texture. Moreover, too much dead skin blocks the hair follicle opening which can cause hairs to grow sideways, resulting in pesky ingrown hairs. By combining both epilation and exfoliation, you can now achieve a softness you can’t stop touching, with a glow you can see. This double beauty treatment is a must for spa-savvy woman looking for the latest innovation that delivers results comparable to a professional treatment.’

While I didn't find the SkinSpa epilator nearly as painful as I thought it would be and really liked the two speed function, I didn't find it left me as smooth as shaving. While you're advised to go against the direction of the hair growth some hairs grow in different directions and some get left behind. I went over areas several times, but still had a few patches of hair that didn't seem to budge.

It was really quick and easy to do, but it did leave me looking a bit like a plucked chicken! You're warned that this will happen to epilator first-timers, so the advice is to epilate in the evening, moisturise afterwards and allow it to go down after a good nights sleep (which it did). The idea is that you then use the exfoliation brush to prevent ingrown hairs, which we all know ruin your look no matter how smooth and hair free you are!

So while I was a bit disappointed that I still had patches of hair left, I am really keen to try using it again and will definitely use the exfoliation brush to keep my poor, dry winter legs looking their best.

The Braun SkinSpa is available exclusively at Boots for £169.99

Golden Globes 2014 Red Carpet - Best Dressed

Well hello there, Award Season. How the devil are you? I missed you and talking pretty dresses, fabulous hair and gorgeous make-up. The Golden Globes 2014 kicked off the catwalk show that is the Red Carpet on Sunday and we're off to a great start.

Lupita Nyong'o in regal red Ralph Lauren was the lady everyone was talking about on the red carpet, and rightly so. She looked unbelievably incredible in this sleek cape back dress and had the poise needed to carry off such a statuesque style. Gwyneth Paltrow showed us what a red carpet winner the chic column cape dress is on the red carpet at the 2012 Oscars.

However not everyone will agree with my next choice. Because I loved Lena Dunham in Zac Posen. This bold and bright yellow dress wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but I really loved the shape on Lena and really, really loved the fact that the colour was a bit too bright for her skin tone and clashed with the red lip. Because it reflects her personality and shows fashion is about what you want to wear. F$*k flattering!

I thought about adding some others to my best dressed list, including Zooey Deschanel and Michelle Dockery both in Oscar de la Renta, but there dresses were almost completely lovely. I really didn't like the sleeves on Zooey's dress and Michelle's was a beautiful shape, but the neckline was a bit flat.

Who was your best dressed at the Golden Globes 2014?

A Christmas Engagement and a Happy New Year

I hope everyone had a very happy Christmas and will have a very happy New Year. I certainly did as my lovely boyfriend is now my lovely fiancé. After a very beautiful and teary proposal on the beach in Cornwall on Christmas Day, we've fallen head first into wedding planning.

While I promise not to be crazy about it, I should imagine that some wedding planning will leak into Carina100.co.uk. Like it already has with my Pinterest - whoops! If you'd like to see what is inspiring me along the long road to weddingville, you can check out my wedding inspiration Pinterest board here.

Needless to say, I'm stupidly happy and excited, and while I've already repeated the proposal story about 100 times, 101 won't hurt. So how did Mark do it? It was Christmas day and we were with both our families in Cornwall, it was after presents and before a very late Christmas lunch, Mark suggested that we go for a walk on the beach. I was very surprised that none of the family tried to come too, but still didn't know what was to come. We walked through the very picture-perfect village of Kingsand (below) down towards the seafront, which was all but deserted, and as we neared the rocks someone was suddenly down on one knee!! I won't go into too much detail, as those special words were just for me, but there was lots of excited screaming and happy tears.

As Mark knows me better than I know myself, he knew that I'd probably want some say in my engagement ring, so the other part of 'operation engagement' was explained to me. He had his mum's original engagement ring, which sadly didn't fit, but he also had 5 back up dummy rings for me to try. The plan was then revealed. Not only were we getting engaged, but we were flying to New York the day after my birthday to pick my engagement ring! I was completely amazed by the thought and effort Mark had put into the proposal and just how romantic he is (and how he knows me inside-out!). I couldn't, and didn't, ever imagine something this fantastic.

So we're headed to New York in less than two weeks time and I am so ridiculously excited for this special adventure and all the adventures we have to come!
