The Best of New York Fashion Week Spring 2011
Following on from the little task I set myself yesterday to pick one designer's Spring 2011 collection from each of the four main Fashion Week cities, I'm starting with the fabulous New York Fashion Week. The collections shown at NYFW this season were so strong, there was a 60s/70s vibe, with bold colours (think Mad Men gone to Studio 54 and holidaying in St Tropez) juxtaposed with a crisp minimalism with muted colours and straight, unformed shapes and silhouettes.
It was so hard to pick just one collection that I not only loved, but felt summed up NYFW perfectly. While I couldn't get enough of Jason Wu (Riviera chic, 70s highwaisters and turbans, Marchesa (out of this world red carpet dresses) and Rodarte (so fresh, quirky and interesting - yet so wearable), my pick of New York Fashion Week had to be Marc Jacobs.
The 70s trend, bright colours and a louche, decadent feel were all present in Marc Jacobs collection, and to me, that summed up NYFW 2011.
