Best Dressed of 2009

2009 was a great year for old school Hollywood glamour on the red carpet (and on or TV screens, on stage, music videos, etc...) and we saw some really amazing outfits that added some glitz to a recession-filled year! So here's my list of the girls (and their outfits) that got me in a tizz in 2009! To start things off, Katy Perry wowed me at the EMAs on the red carpet with this drool-inducing pink Marchesa gown; one shouldered, lace, and ballerina pink – three trends at once – this gal means business!

Alexander McQueen wowed us with his super-human ss10 catwalk show 'Plato’s Atlantis' in Paris, and only a few people have been brave and charismatic enough to wear some of the pieces from the show, but one little lady that totally made the look her own is the queen of kooky, Lady Gaga, in her 'Bad Romance' video.

Another lady who set the bar for wearing Alexander McQueen ss10 was Camilla Belle, who made it look oh so simple, with a-maz-ing results! Just wow!

2009 also had the bi-weekly fashion wars as Cheryl and Dannii competed  on X Factor for the style queen crown. It was the main reason most of us tuned in on a Saturday and Sunday night and the girls rarely disappointed. Dannii wore lots of Australian designers, while Cheryl championed some up and coming designers. But for overall style and consistency Dannii has to be the victor, she killed it most shows and earns bonus points for crimping her hair and not looking like she's going to a 90s party!

Red carpet style was all about Nine, Avatar and Sherlock Holmes (but not always about the leading ladies, with certain guests (cough *Blake Lively*) stealing the limelight from the stars. With a blockbuster like Avatar you have to make your mark, and that's exactly what Zoe Saldana did, here red carpet look just got better and better with every premiere, but it was this Roland Mouret dress that made my jaw drop. Hasn't she come a long way since Get Over It and the crop top wearing Maggie???

Nine has so many leading ladies, the red carpet was always going to be a style battle ground. In my opinion the ladies looked the best and most glam at the London Premiere, with Kate Hudson and Penelope Cruz looking picture perfect in their stunning floor length gowns. But Kate stole it for me in her simply stunning cream Atelier Versace gown (Atelier Versace has been over all the red carpets this year, from music awards to film premieres!)

At the Sherlock Holmes premiere in NYC it wasn't leading lady Rachel McAdams who everyone was looking at but 'the body' that is Blake Lively. She looked H-O-T-T hot in a sheer lace dress by Dolce & Gabbana. Ok she's showing a lot of flesh and totally upstaging Rachel, buuuut she looks damn good doing it!

Simple and sophisticated red dresses were really doing it for me in 2009, especially these beauties worn by Nicola Roberts (girl band poppet turned serious fashionista), Lake Bell (too cool for school actress, showing those newbies how it's done) and another Nine lovely, Penelope Cruz, who was expertly draped in red satin.

So that was 2009, bring on 2010!!!
